Ainsley Moos, the well-known corporate and stakeholder relations executive at Patrice Motsepe’s African Rainbow Capital (ARC), has died. He was 45 years old.

Moos, a former journalist who was also the chair of the Stellenbosch University council, is survived by his wife, Taryn; his three-year-old son, Lex; and his mother, brother and sisters.

In a statement issued by his family, it was said Moos died on January 31 during a minor medical procedure to his mouth. Business Day understands that his death was caused by a heart attack believed to be linked to complications that arose after he was anaesthetised at a day clinic in Stellenbosch.

“The family can confirm that their beloved husband, father, brother, uncle and son — Ainsley Moos — died suddenly and unexpectedly,” the Moos family said.

Moos was well known in media circles, having previously worked at Media24 publications including Beeld, Landbouweekblad, Volksblad and Sake24.

He spent almost six years at Sanlam, during which time he headed up group communications and worked as an operations manager in the office of the CEO.

Moos became a member of the Stellenbosch University council in 2014 before becoming its chair in December 2021. He joined ARC in April 2018 as executive for corporate and stakeholder relations, a position he held until his death.

Moos held a BA degree in psychology and sociology as well as an MBA from Stellenbosch University. He completed various executive education programmes at Wits Business School, the Gordon Institute of Business Science and Harvard Business School.
