ON THE LINE: THE RICHARD WILLIAMS STORY — SHOWMAX

This documentary tells the true story of the determination of Richard Williams, father of Serena and Venus, and his dream of securing global tennis superstar status for his daughters. Featuring archive interviews with Richard Williams, the film, directed by Stuart McClave, traces Williams’ journey from the courts of Compton, Los Angeles, to the grass of Wimbledon as he watched his dream become a reality.

THE WINTER KING — SHOWMAX

Adapted from the historical novel by best-selling author Bernard Cornwell, this dark and bloody series offers a new and cast-diverse reimagining of the legend of King Arthur and his struggles to unite Dark Ages Britain in the face of looming threats to its existence from within and beyond its borders. Starring Iain De Caestecker as Arthur and Nathaniel MartelloWhite as his pagan mentor Merlin, it’s a twisty rendition of the historical realities and dark spiritual beliefs that shaped the country’s most famous and fascinating monarch. Episodes are available weekly from Monday December 4.

DUMB MONEY: THE GAMESTOP STORY BUY FROM APPLE TV+

A crowd-pleasing comedy adaptation of the true story of the ragtag bunch of ordinary people who almost brought Wall Street to its knees and got rich in the process as they turned the stock of US video game store GameStop into the hottest on the stock exchange. Starring Paul Dano, Pete Davidson and Vincent D’Onofrio, this slight but funny tale of brief populist heroism in the face of insurmountable odds from capitalist power offers a twist to the underdogs-versusthe-system genre — thanks to hugely enjoyable performances — that benefits from the knowledge that most of its wild tale is based on fact.

INSIDE — RENT OR BUY FROM APPLE TV+

It’s not for the easily distracted but there’s plenty of reward to be had for those who endure this predominantly one-man show drama from director Vasilis Katsoupis, which offers some career-best work by veteran actor Willem Dafoe. Dafoe plays an art thief, who finds himself trapped in a swanky New York apartment surrounded by priceless artworks and who must use all his ingenuity to escape his predicament. It’s an effective premise that allows the film to slowly build its battle between human intelligence and resilience and the alienating effects of technology and our reliance on it, to creepy effect.

RESERVATION DOGS SEASON 3 DISNEY+

FX’s dramedy about the lives of young Native Americans on a reservation bows out with a season that reminds us why it has been one of the strongest, funniest and most thoughtprovoking shows in recent television history. Creators Sterlin Harjo and Taika Waititi guide the final season through a narrative that forces a reckoning with the historical injustices of the US.
